The short answer: AI training in Kenya costs anything from nothing to more than Ksh 100,000 a day for a corporate group. Free, sponsored programmes teach the basics. Short live classes cost about Ksh 500 to Ksh 5,000. Hands-on half-day and two-day courses cost about Ksh 5,000 to Ksh 15,000. Multi-week bootcamps cost Ksh 25,000 to Ksh 50,000. Team training is priced per person or per day.
The price alone tells you very little. A Ksh 10,000 course where you watch slides for seven hours can be worth less than a Ksh 500 class where you finish three real tasks on your own business. This guide explains what each price band buys, what sets the price, and the questions to ask before you pay.
We run hands-on AI training in Nairobi, so we have an interest here. We say where we fit at the end, and we name the free options too, because they are the right choice for some people.
How much does AI training cost in Kenya?#
These are the main price bands for AI training aimed at business owners and working professionals in Kenya. We took the figures from prices that Kenyan providers publish on their own websites, checked in October 2026.
- Free: sponsored literacy programmes run by technology companies, county governments, libraries and universities. Usually online, often over several weeks, often for a set group such as young people.
- Ksh 500 to Ksh 5,000: short live classes of one to two hours, or a few evening sessions online. Good for a first try.
- Ksh 5,000 to Ksh 15,000: half-day to two-day hands-on courses, in a training room or online, often with a certificate.
- Ksh 25,000 to Ksh 50,000: multi-week bootcamps and university short courses, usually with more theory and more hours.
- Teams and companies: per person (for example Ksh 13,500 per person for a group) or per day. Published corporate day rates in Kenya start at about Ksh 120,000 a day.
- Private one-to-one: from about Ksh 10,000 for a single session to Ksh 60,000 for a multi-day executive programme.
Courses for developers, data scientists and machine learning engineers sit outside these bands. They teach you to build AI systems, not to use AI tools at work, and they cost more.
What sets the price of an AI course?#
Five things explain most of the difference between a Ksh 5,000 course and a Ksh 40,000 one.
- Hours. Two hours, four hours, two days or eight weeks. More hours cost more, but only hands-on hours change what you can do afterwards.
- Hands-on time. In some courses the trainer demonstrates and you watch. In others you work on your own tasks while the trainer helps. Ask which one it is.
- Class size. A class of 10 lets the trainer look at your screen. A webinar of 300 does not.
- Certificate. A certificate of completion adds a little to the price. An accredited or vendor certification adds a lot. They are not the same thing.
- Support afterwards. A WhatsApp group, a follow-up clinic, written notes or a recap of every prompt. Support is where most of the learning sticks, because the questions come in the week after the class.
Is there free AI training in Kenya?#
Yes, and some of it is very good. If your budget is zero, start here.
- Meta and This Is Digital AI Academy Kenya: a free online masterclass with 300 places, starting 3 November 2026. Details on TechTrends KE.
- Intel and the Kenya National Library Service: free AI training in public libraries. Details on TechTrends KE.
- Open University of Kenya: a sponsored Generative AI masterclass and hackathon at about Ksh 1,000. Open University of Kenya.
- Nairobi County: a county AI programme for residents. Nairobi City County.
Free programmes are strong on awareness: what AI is, which tools exist, and how to stay safe. They are usually weaker on your own work. Large online classes cannot look at your proposal, your price list or your messy spreadsheet. If you want AI to do a specific job in your business, that is where a paid, hands-on class earns its fee.
What do short AI classes (Ksh 500 to Ksh 5,000) give you?#
A short class is a test drive. In one or two hours you can set up a free AI account, learn one way of writing instructions that works, and use it on two or three real tasks.
A good short class leaves you with something finished: a week of social media posts, a reply to a difficult customer, a summary of a long document. A weak one leaves you with a list of tool names.
Short classes cannot teach you to build anything lasting. Two hours is enough to see what AI can do for you. It is not enough to make it part of your week.
What do one-day and two-day AI courses give you?#
This is where most working professionals get the best value. Four to eight hands-on hours are enough to:
- write prompts that give usable answers on the first or second try
- draft a real document from your own inputs, such as a proposal, a report or a tender response
- research with sources you can check
- build an AI assistant that already knows your job, so you do not explain yourself every time
- learn what you must never paste into an AI tool under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.
Expect to pay Ksh 5,000 to Ksh 15,000 in Nairobi. Check what the price includes: materials, a certificate, and support after the day.
Are AI bootcamps worth Ksh 25,000 to Ksh 50,000?#
A bootcamp suits you if you want to change careers, or if you want a broad tour of many tools over several weeks. You get more hours and more theory.
For a business owner or an employee who wants AI to save time at work this month, a long bootcamp is often more than the job needs. Many people learn faster from a short, focused course followed by real use at work, than from eight weeks of evening sessions.
How is corporate AI training priced in Kenya?#
Team training is priced in one of two ways.
- Per person. For example, Ksh 13,500 per person for a group of 10 or more. The price grows with the team, and every person gets the same programme.
- Per day. A flat day rate for the group, regardless of size, plus preparation. Published day rates in Kenya start at about Ksh 120,000.
Good team training is built around the team's own documents and systems, not generic examples. It also includes rules for data protection. Before you book, ask for the syllabus in writing and approve it first. For more on this, see our page on AI training for teams.
Seven questions to ask before you pay for AI training#
- How many of the hours are hands-on, on my own work?
- How many people are in the class?
- Which AI tools does the course actually teach, and are they free to keep using afterwards?
- What will I have finished by the end of the session?
- Is it recorded? If not, what do I get in writing?
- What happens if I miss the date: a refund, a transfer, or nothing?
- What support is there after the class, and for how long?
A provider who answers all seven clearly, on the website, before you pay, is usually a provider who delivers.
Where does Cloudwise fit?#
Cloudwise Limited, an ICT company in Westlands, Nairobi, runs hands-on AI training on Claude for individuals and teams. We built our classes as three steps, so you can start small and only pay for more when the first step has worked for you.
- AI Kickstart, Ksh 500. Two hours, live on Google Meet, on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. You set up Claude, learn one prompt method, and finish three real tasks. About the Kickstart.
- AI Essentials, Ksh 5,500. One Saturday, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, at our training room on the 4th Floor of Delta Annex, Delta Corner, Westlands, or online. You build your own AI assistant for the job that takes most of your week, and use it on a real document. About Essentials.
- AI Productivity Programme, Ksh 13,500. Two Saturdays, eight hours. It adds a live connected workflow, an upgraded assistant and a 30-day plan, with a certificate of completion. About the Programme.
What you pay for a smaller step counts toward the next one: the Ksh 500 for 14 days, and the Ksh 5,500 for 60 days. Every class is paid in full by M-Pesa when you book. Sessions are not recorded, but you receive every prompt we use in class, in writing. Essentials and Programme participants join our WhatsApp support community.
For one person, private training is eight hours for Ksh 30,000. For teams of 10 or more, it is Ksh 13,500 per person, built on your own documents.
You can compare all three options on our AI training in Nairobi page. If you are not sure which AI tool does what, start with our free guide to AI tools in Kenya.
Frequently asked questions#
Is there free AI training in Kenya?#
Yes. Meta and This Is Digital, Intel with the Kenya National Library Service, the Open University of Kenya and Nairobi County all run free or sponsored AI programmes. They are a good start for learning what AI is. A paid, hands-on class is better when you want AI to do a specific job in your own business.
Do I need a laptop for an AI class?#
For a short online class, a smartphone is enough to follow along and try the prompts. For a half-day or full-day course, bring a laptop and its charger. You will work on real documents, and a full keyboard and a bigger screen make that much easier.
Is a certificate worth paying for?#
A certificate of completion shows an employer that you attended and finished a course. It is not an accreditation or a vendor certification. Value the skills first. Choose a course whose certificate can be checked online, so that anyone can confirm it is genuine.
Can my employer pay for a team?#
Yes. Most providers price team training per person or per day. At Cloudwise, teams of 10 or more pay Ksh 13,500 per person, and the syllabus is sent for approval before the day. Book a short call through our team training page.
Not sure AI is for you yet? Try it live for Ksh 500. The AI Kickstart runs every Wednesday, 7:00 to 9:00 pm, on Google Meet, and the Ksh 500 counts toward a bigger course. Book at cloudwise.co.ke/ai-training/kickstart.
